the vegetation under her boots gives as she straightens back up, hiding spot and hiding companion left behind as she tries to make out the now very faint chatter of the men who have just passed them by. she is just about to follow them when the man beside her speaks, --- I don’t think they saw us, and ivy turns to look at him, gaze sweeping quickly over his clothes before settling on his face.

it seems clear enough that he isn’t allied with the group that ivy has every intention of hunting down. it’s her experience that no one with that many weapons ever has good intentions, after all, and she won’t have any of that nonsense in what might very well be paradise. the man next to her is clearly not as heavily armed as them, and there is something in his features she can’t quite name that still makes her willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
