Why is it that Allistic Science™ and Common Knowledge® have to keep insisting that autistic people are rigid and inflexible?
Like
A lot of us need explicit rules and structure
But take allistic people and put them in a situation where the rules they were happy to leave implicit no longer apply and they freak out, because they thought their rules didn't need saying because they were somehow intrinsic and absolute
And with the possible exception of the laws of physics, that's not so.
I may tend to freak out if I don't know the rules explicitly and I think I'm expected to. But I'm comfortable with the idea that those rules that I may know aren't the only ones, aren't necessarily complete, and might have to be updated (especially in a new context).
