'To be able to do art, it was a luxury to me.' -Anchee Min | Go to Rate a Quote to find more inspiring quotes each day.
I'm currently reading The Last Empress by Anchee Min and it's utterly fascinating. I know a shamefully small amount about the history of China, so it was so interesting (and sad) learning about the fall of the dynasty, the role that Empress Azi Hsi had to play in it, and the lengths she went to in order to try and save it. I know this drawing is probably wildly inaccurate, but I wanted her richly detailed robes to represent how oppressive she found her role in court, and the burdens she had to carry all her life.
