I go from Rikka (the black hair girl) being the possible best girl, to Rikka’s definitely the best girl. How Akane acts is charming and quirky, but bitch kills people for being rude to her. That’s crossing the line. Remember when that volleyball girl kicked her ball to Akane’s hand in episode 1? She killed 5 of them just because of that. Now we know why that scene was dragged out for such a long time; it tells us something important. This also explains why Akane is so popular. She did this so many times before. She killed people who didn’t like her, and left those who do. Akane acts like a spoiled brat with a rich dad.

It’s highly likely that Hibiki’s amnesia is connected to Gridman. However, I do have another theory. It may, may, be that she tried to kill him and he had a near-death experience, hence he lost his memories. Hibiki wound up at a random place, so it might be that he was running from a kaiju.

While Akane is being a sociopathic asshole, Rikka and our main characters show a lot of emotions. They’re not dramatic about it, but it’s enough for us viewers to feel empathy towards them. This whole fighting kaiju thing isn’t without loss and consequences. The exploration of these themes suddenly adds depths to the show, and explains why these children, who were just normal high school students a few days ago, are so determined to sort out this mess. If they don’t, Akane’s gonna annihilate everyone, and their loved ones will suddenly snap out of existence, leaving only the memories of them. With this, I expect that there will be a major loss at some point. Maybe it’s just something cliché like a friend or a family of them die, but it’s enough to make them stumble and fall out. I would like to see how Trigger handle the theme of death and grief.
