Result: 9. Â Your muse is having a vivid nightmare and is shouting out brokenly.
Only years of self-training and the need for survival allowed Rask to become nearly instantly alert as he was awakened by a sound, one which had surely continued unheeded for a few minutes or longer. Â He sat up on the thin mattress rolled out for him on the floor of Aminasâ humble home in the Wandering Isles, one hand already gasping the hilt of the ever-present dagger under his pillow. But there was no need for it; the strangled sounds were coming from his companion across the room, and after another few seconds Raskâs mind, exhausted from the day of training as it was, realized it knew the sound. Â Heâd heard it from Aminasâs throat many times, and from his own. Â He shifted his blanket away from him, rising a little stiffly to his feet and padding silently to Aminas, hands reaching to grasp his shoulder and brow. Â âAminas,â He spoke in a low, tender voice.
The elf jerked under his hands, but this time in waking, his unconscious cries interrupted. Â He took a moment longer than Rask to get his bearings, leaf-green eyes blearily blinking tears away. Â Rask settled himself on the edge of the mattress, making sure his touch was reassuring and undemanding. Â âHeyâ âs me. Â You was havinâ some bad dreams.â
âRask,â Aminas croaked out, shifting to press a hand to his face. Â Rask took his hand away. Â âGodsâ Iâm sorryâ sorry for waking you.â
âTch,â Rask rebutted. Â âNot yer fault. Â Scoot yerself over, yeh?â He didnât wait for a real response, gently pushing himself into the space next to Aminas on the mattress. Â Aminas shifted a little, giving Rask enough room to stretch his lithe form next to the elfâs and sling an arm over him, feeling his weariness dragging at him now that it was apparent there was no tangible danger. Â âYa wanna talk about it?â He asked, half closed eyes just managing to make out the silhouette of Aminasâs face, and seeing as well as feeling the motion of the head shake he gave. Â He was still trembling a little, Rask noted, breath hitching in his chest.
âAlright,â Rask drawled soothingly, ââs alright.  Jusâ try anâ relax, aye?  âm here.â  Gradually, Aminas did just that, and Rask found himself surprisedâ not for the first timeâ just how much the man who was over two feet taller than him managed to fold himself against Rask, curling into the rogueâs arms.  Rask kept himself awake as the seconds of silence between them stretched to minutes, hearing Aminasâs ragged breath ease and then even out.  Only once he was sure the monk was well and truly asleep did he give himself over to the same, the two of them managing to rest without disruption until dawn.
