James and Amelia’s friendship wasn’t new this year but it certainly changed an awful lot. He had always thought she was funny and talented and pretty but suddenly everything was heightened and he was left wondering how he had never seen just how amazing she was before. 

He wouldn’t say it to anyone but her, but after their first kiss in the pub, he couldn’t get her out of his head. Back then he didn’t even admit it to himself, not really noticing that he was texting her more, seeing her outside the group, talking to her more honestly than he ever had before. That one kiss changed everything and he was instantly glad it did.

James thinks Amelia is pretty close to perfect. He knows she’s stubborn, and can be reluctant to express herself, and a tendency to overwork, but none of these things bother him because they are part of who she is. If he was asked what he thinks of her he would say that she is the smartest person he knows, the sexiest, one of the funniest, loveliest and most caring. From a friendship that was nothing groundbreaking, he now can’t imagine a day spent without at least texting her. He thinks she’s witty, and charming and strong. 

As an of his friends would know, James doesn’t feel things halfheartedly, and sometimes, when she’s particularly cute or kind or humourous a quiet thought in his head goes ‘ᶦ ˡᵒᵛᵉ ʸᵒᵘ’ but he quickly tells it to shut up because they’ve been dating for a few weeks and boyfriend and girlfriend for ever less, and she will think he’s absolutely crazy if he says it out loud. That, and he wants to be confident and sure when he says it, whether she says it back or not. 

He’ll do absolutely everything he can to keep making her happy and to see her smile light up her face because it’s what she deserves and he feels incredibly lucky to be the one who’s making her smile. He knows it easily couldn’t have happened with how scared and stubborn they both were at the beginning, so he never wants to take her for granted. 

Basically, he’s absolutely smitten.
