An unknown system incorporating an Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus motherboard and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU has been tested on Geekbench. The device with the brand-new board and just-announced Ryzen 3000 processor managed a surprising score in the single-core test, where it managed to beat out every other Ryzen-based system that has appeared on Geekbench so far, Notbookcheck reports.

The Ryzen 5 3600 scored 26,371 in the multi-core test, but the single-core test score is what really stands out for this particular Geekbench entry. The Ryzen 3000 series processor amassed 5,390 points, which is more than any other Ryzen-branded chip, including Threadrippers, currently found in the benchmark chart (33 recorded at the time of writing). The nearest AMD-designed product, which is perhaps unsurprisingly the Ryzen 7 2700X, trails far behind on 4,802 points.

The score of 5,390 matches that of the 8-core i7-7820X (the Ryzen 5 3600 is a 6-core processor). More impressively, the entry-level Ryzen 3000 chip is only 10 points short of equaling the Intel Core i9-9980XE, which is an 18-core monster.

AMD’s Lisa Su leading tech industry into it’s future | 7NM, RDNA, Rome, Ryzen 9 & more

AMD’s products are exciting and they are what will drive its stock up and firm its hold on certain important computing markets.

The tone of the announcements at this year’s Computex and the particular wording chosen by Lisa Su throughout the presentation, cements this as the main goal of AMD for this year and beyond.

“2019 is off to an incredible start for AMD as we celebrate 50 years of innovation by delivering leadership products to push the limits of what is possible with computing and graphics technology,” Su said at the event.

In both the home-user and datacenter space, AMD CPUs are poised to outperform, undercut, and evolve beyond the competition. That’s the kind of leadership AMD is talking about and it’s the position it is gunning for in the industry. It isn’t just looking to be a great alternative to Intel, it’s looking to make Intel an alternative to AMD.

Su said its first 7nm Navi implementation will be part of the first Navi card: the Radeon RX 5000 family (with the 50-00 name deriving from the company’s milestone anniversary this year). The first GPU to hit the road will be the Radeon RX 5700, which will go toe-to-toe with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070. As AMD’s first 7nm GPU, Su said the card will hit higher clock speeds and use less power than the current Radeon generation.

AMD + MICROSOFT & ASUS & ACER …

From Microsoft, which AMD is partnering with to deliver the fastest cloud computing the world has ever seen, to motherboard and laptop partners like Asus and Acer, AMD has courted and secured firm handshakes with major industry players. Asus alone is looking to launch more than 30 motherboards for Ryzen 3000 CPUs, suggesting a major commitment and investment from the company in AMD’s new line of products. It’s not the only one either.

Computex, AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled:

“RDNA,” AMD’s new graphics architecture brand for its next-gen “Navi” core, which will be called the Radeon RX 5700 graphics card and go head-to-head with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070.

An 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 3700X with stupidly good power efficiency of 65 watts.

An 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 3800X that all but erases any gaming deficits the CPUs have had versus the Intel competition.

The world’s first PCIe 4.0-ready PC parts

A dual-processor “Rome” Epyc server running laps on a dual-processor Intel Xeon Platinum 8280 server.

The most anticipated news, though, was AMD’s Ryzen 9 3900X CPU. Su said the 12-core Ryzen 9 will have a boost clock of 4.6GHz with a base clock of 3.8GHz. The Ryzen 9 3900X will also pack in 70MB of cache and cost just $499.

Although AMD’s Su didn’t mention them in her keynote, AMD also announced several new Ryzen chips: the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 3800X (3.9GHz base/4.5GHz boost, 105W, $399); the 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 3600X (3.8GHz base/4.4GHz boost, 95W, $249); and the 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen 5 3600 (3.6GHz base/4.2GHz boost, 65W, $199).

AMD CEO confirms Threadripper is alive, well, and ‘moving up’

“You know. it’s very interesting, some of the things that circulate on the Internet—I don’t think we ever said that Threadripper was not going to continue—it somehow took on a life of its own on the Internet,” Su said, speaking to a small group of reporters following her keynote. “You will see more [Threadripper] from us; you will definitely see more.” “If mainstream is moving up, then Threadripper will have to move up, up—and that’s what we’re working on,” Su said.

New Benchmark Pops Up, AMD Six-Core 12-Thread Ryzen Processor

The world has been waiting for AMD’s Lisa Su to take the stage at Computex to update us on the progress of its Ryzen 3000-series processors, but now chip detective Tum_Apisak has turned up a six-core Ryzen 3000 series model in a Geekbench test result.  The mysterious third-generation Ryzen chip lines up with some of the information shared earlier this year by AdoredTV, which also predicted a 16-core Ryzen model would come to market.

The Geekbench test result outlines a six-core, 12-thread processor that comes with the Ryzen 3000 codename Matisse. AMD has discontinued using its standard processor identification strings, which are easily identifiable in public test databases and easily decoded. As such, this sample comes with the AMD 100-000000031-03 identifier. Tomshardware reports.  The chip has a 3.20 GHz base frequency and a 3.99 GHz boost, though these likely aren’t final clocks due to the ES nature of the chip, and comes with 16MB of L3 cache apparently split into two shared 8MB slices (8MB x 2).

The big takeaway is that Ryzen 3000-series samples are in the ecosystem already, meaning that the launch should be coming along well with AMD’s target date of Q3 2019. We’re less than 30 hours away from AMD CEO Lisa Su’s keynote here at Computex 2019, where we’re sure to learn more.

GPD Now Switching Intel to AMD Ryzen APU: Report Says

The last time we caught up with GPD, the company had tweeted out a few vague schematics of its forthcoming Win 2 Max handheld gaming PC, fueling reports that the company was switching from Intel chips to AMD’s Ryzen. GPD has had a strong history of using Intel’s Atom processors, such as Cherry Trail, for its thin and small PCs. Now, according to images found by the sharp-eyed folks at lilputing, those rumors appear to be confirmed.

GPD has a unique position in the market with its Win and Pocket series of products & the newly leaked images of the upcoming Win Max show the board using what looks like a Ryzen Embedded V1000-series APU, which is found in the upcoming Smach Z, a much smaller, yet similar handheld gaming device.

Judging by the size of the device (which seems like a larger 3DS) and its battery, it’s likely this processor won’t be running at a very high TDP, meaning performance will be significantly lower than on typical laptops, but it will almost certainly be faster than an Atom-based processor. And possibly more power efficient as well.

AMD just revealed the processing chip for Atari VCS. The Ryzen Embedded R1000 SoC promises to be faster, cooler, and more efficient, and it’s being used to power the new Atari VCS console. It includes built-in Ethernet, native 4K video support with modern HDCP, and a secure frame buffer that fully supports DRM videos like those found on Netflix and other streaming apps, Variety reports.

“With the AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 powering the Atari VCS, we can support the 4K 60fps HDR content that users expect from a modern, secure gaming and entertainment system,” said Michael Arzt, COO of Atari Connected Devices. “AMD’s new Ryzen Embedded SoC will also help protect the VCS’ environment and content as we support an unprecedented open-access model that allows Atari’s highly-creative community to install any other operating system side by side with the Atari OS.”

Atari is going to come with more than 100 classic Atari titles like “Asteroids,” “Centipede,” “Breakout,” and “Missile Command.” Fans can access and download additional titles and content via the console’s storefront when it launches.

According to a press release, this new chip includes built-in Ethernet, Native 4K video support, and secure frame buffer which supports DRM video such as Netflix, HBO, and other streaming services.

Lenovo has unveiled its brand new 2019 lineup of mainstream IdeaPad and high-end ThinkPad laptops at the Barcelona event all set to launch in the March to June time frame.

Notebookcheck is reporting that, “the upcoming mainstream Lenovo IdeaPad C340 family will be one of the first to offer Zen+ Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, and Ryzen 7 processor options that were initially unveiled at CES 2019. The AMD options should be comparable to Intel Whiskey Lake-U for at least $50 USD less when the Lenovo convertible launches next month.”

The new mainstream models IdeaPad C340 convertible laptop in particular consists of 14-inch (C340-14IWL) and 15.6-inch (C340-15IWL) SKUs that otherwise share the same I/O ports. The chassis incorporates narrow bezels, an optional backlit keyboard, glass fiber outer lid, up to a GeForce MX230 GPU, and a physical TrueBlock Privacy Shutter switch inspired by the webcam switch on the newest ThinkPad laptops.

the 14-inch C340 series will also carry next generation AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Ryzen 5 3500U, and Ryzen 7 3700U Zen+ options with integrated Radeon RX Vega graphics. These AMD SKUs will be just a hair thicker than the 14-inch Intel variant (17.93 mm vs. 17.94 mm), but both versions will otherwise be visually identical to one another.

The 14-inch and 15.6-inch IdeaPad C340 family is launching this March in EMEA and this April in the U.S. for a starting price of $450 to $500 USD. SKUs may carry the usual “Flex” name when sold in the U.S. in order to ride home the 2-in-1 form factor and 360-degree hinges.

It is all over the news sites that E-Katalog, a Russian retailer, has put the entire line of Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs (the ‘Matisse’ series) on its website and guess what, that is leaked. These listings may indeed just be placeholders, said by some sources; But they may contain detailed information on processors such as the Ryzen 9 3800X.

Leaks suggests that the new generation has seriously outpaced its predecessor, especially at the higher end. 3800X’s base clock is 3.9GHz, with a boost clock of 4.7GHz. Again, this outdoes the 2700X by 0.2GHz and 0.4GHz respectively. The TDP of this supposed next-gen chipset is listed as 125W, or 20W more than its Ryzen 2000 counterpart.

The E-Katalog website also now contains details on other 3000-series Matisse processors. They range from the Ryzen 7 3700X (with 12 cores and 24 threads, clocked at 4.2 to 5.0 GHz and with a TDP of 105W) to the Ryzen 3 3300 (6 cores/12 threads, 3.2-4.0 GHz and a 50W TDP). On the other hand, there are some discrepancies between the new Matisse series and its predecessor. Only 2 new Ryzen 5 processors are listed, rather than the 3 from last year, and there are no G-type (e.g. the Ryzen 3 2600G) processors this time around. However, Ryzen’s upcoming CES showcase should clear this up, and confirm these new listings, in short order. Notbookcheck reports.

AMD’s new processors, codenamed Matisse, will use the 7nm process while Intel will only be using a 10nm processor for its 2019 series. Intel has long held a general performance advantage over AMD on a core-by-core comparison but this trend could be about to reverse with these specs listed below.

Intel has had a bad year in 2018 from the spectre, security issues, CEO selling the shares scandals and cpu flaws to the CPU shortage for 12 and 10 nm platform and AMD announcement of 7nm technology movement in 2019. With all that in mind and the fact that already many datacenter customers of Xion has moved plans to work with AMD in 2019 for the great EPYC platform that AMD introduced in 2018. All are making the ground for a very nice head start for AMD in 2019. If everything goes well with releasing the 7nm platforms expected to be introduced in early 2019, Intel should fear the consequences.
