My brother is the head of his little section for is company inside this facility. He ensures things run smoothly and work gets done, packages get to where they need to, etc. With that he is privy to information from the General Manager (GM) of the Amazon facility. They should have open lines of communication. Key word, ‘should.’ However, during this lock down the GM told my brother or anyone else asking about the situation that the safety concern wasn’t their business. He also told them that it was confidential information, and it wasn’t the time or place to be discussed.

Not long after the lock down started my brother was communicating with some of the other 3rd party companies in the facility, he found out that there was someone there with a gun. An active shooter situation, if you may. But this information even after things were said and done wasn’t shared with a single employee that didn’t get a first hand view of the situation. When my brother confronted the GM about the situation, all the GM had to say was “Thanks for the feedback.” Like it was a suggestion to share information about a possible life threatening situation rather then a call out for poor management and putting the entire facility in danger. They didn’t even call the police to ensure if something did happen they had professionals to deescalate the situation.

The shooter/threat was one of the other 3rd party drivers. And after listening to some of the things my brother has told me I can’t even be mad at that driver for ending up in that situation. Amazon treats their drivers and their 3rd party delivery services like absolute shit. Forcing them to work and drive even when the cities have closed highways and roads due to horrible weather, and then blaming the employees for the poor safety situations they find themselves in.
