Excuse me for a moment because I have a bone to pick with the male gender.
My sister and I just went out to a small ice cream shop in our little town for an evening snack. We were walking down the street, about 50 feet if that, from our car, when a small bus of guys pulled up next to us at the stop light. Immediately, the guys stuck their heads out the window and started yelling things like "Hey babe!" and whistling, among other cat calls. I glanced over for a second, only enough to whisper to my thirteen-year-old little sister, who was on the outside of the street closest to them, to just ignore the dudes and keep walking. We were supposed to cross the street in front of them, but I elected us to walk towards a group of people at a different outdoor restaurant. When the boys realized they weren't going to get a reaction out of us, they immediately started yelling "TITS OUT FOR THE BOYS, TITS OUT FOR THE BOYS" and calling us sluts, whores, etc. Below, is a picture of what we were wearing.
We're both wearing "longer" shorts, and she's wearing a t-shirt while I'm wearing a tank top that is at least three- fingers width.
When we came home and told our parents about this, they just laughed it off and said "they just wanted to get a reaction out of you." THAT should not be something that can just be laughed off.
I know my story isn't as bad as lots of others I've read and heard, but I'm still thinking that the more stories that get out there, the better. I don't want my little sister to have to deal with any more of this in her lifetime. I'm so angry with this whole situation happening to me and others like me.
