With a sequel on the horizon, it's a good time to reflect on Always Sometimes Monsters, a 2014 role-playing game developed by Vagabond Dog and published by prolific indie game purveyors Devolver Digital, and one of the most memorable, understated and heart-warming indie releases in recent years. That's not to say the game is perfect; it suffers [...]
ASM. I need advice.
I’ll level with you guys, but only for you guys here on Tumblr.  I’m really afraid to go back to Always Sometimes Monsters. Â
When I started the series and I was playing the storyline, I had a chip on my shoulder. Â But I tried to be as optimistic as possible, I tried to be as positive as I could be. Â And I managed it pretty well. Â Not perfectly, but pretty well. Â If you noticed, I tried to choose optimistic, romantic options of fighting for the one you love. Â But on a few occasions you can tell I was indecisive.
But since then, even more things have occurred in my personal life and it makes playing that game extremely difficult.  It’s almost like playing it is a personal... insult?  I don’t know exactly how to explain it.  But it makes me angry and hurt at the same time.  I found myself in a very similar situation as Glory. Â
If I did return to the game I feel like there would be a DRAMATIC change in how I approached it, and the decisions I made.  And I’m afraid that you viewers would be angry or disappointed that I didn’t end it with the same attitude I began it with.  I don’t know what to do guys.  I hate the idea of leaving it unfinished, but I don’t think I can emotionally play the game with the rose-colored glasses I had when I started.  Call it realistic, or jaded, but seeing happy fairy tale endings these days makes me very bitter.
Vagabond Dog has announced a sequel to their choice-driven RPG Always Sometimes Monsters, which is titled Sometimes Always Monsters, confusing absolutely no one. Vagabond Dog explained the choice of title in a blog post on their website, also summing up the tonal difference between ASM and SAM. "The concept of always running into situations where we would [...]

It's no big secret that gaming is a ways off of being considered a mature, artistic medium, both among the mainstream public and plenty of gaming critics. We have a lot of problems, like how poorly so many titles deal with politics. For example, Battlefield: Hardline might be one of the most offensive games I've [...]

Hey guys, I’m working on an ASM Evil Bastard video, but it’s turning out to be a whole of editing, and although I recorded over 30 mins I think I may decide to not use any of it, because there isn’t much decision making in it. I want your opinion: Would you like the Operation Evil Bastard videos to remain short clips of only decision making and storyline changes?
