Jim Kirk was in hell, rather he was in what had to have been the dullest conversation of his relatively short life. The man in question? Lieutenant Emerson; an older gentleman that worked down in engineering as something of an aide-- good at what he did, no nonsense, and so fuc-- just really boring. The pair had been walking down a relatively occupied sector for what seemed an eternity or some sort of life sentence for a crime he didn't know he had committed. They were both off duty but that wouldn't excuse any senseless rude behavior on his part; he was captain which meant he had to live up to certain expectations and telling one of your Operations that he was quite frankly-- too God damn boring to continue talking with might not instill the greatest moral.

He noted a familiar blue shirt walking not to far ahead of them, bowl hair cut, those ears.. it was undoubtedly Spock and undoubtedly his ticket out of this mundane mess.

It was ultimately a weighted decision wasn't it, he could continue carrying on a pained conversation with who had to have been the dullest man on board or initiate one with his stoic and stern first officer. Both spoke in something of a dry and calculated monotone, though whereas Lieutenant Emerson seemed to drone on and on and on some more about the way his federation regulates socks made his ankles itch-- the resident Vulcan actually could hold his attentions for longer than a nanosecond. Funny that he was contemplating striking up a conversation with his often emotionless first officer in lieu of having to keep talking to an individual possessing all the captivating charisma of a block of cardboard.

Really, it was bad when you made a Vulcan look riveting.
