Airport advice 1: take advantage of where you are at all times. Your journey as a traveler and world observer is never finished! Many airports have art displays done by local artists, or foods that the area is famous for. Try them. 

Airport advice 2: Do not be afraid to strike up a conversation if the chance arises (although if someone looks mad or is clearly NOT in the mood I'd advise you to steer clear)  

When I was travelling back from Australia during high school, I met this couple who had two young sons. They were on their way back to Los Angeles, just like me, only they lived in California and didn't have to fly all the way to the Atlantic...BUT ANYWAY. I was travelling with a student group and we had to bring souvenirs that were unique to our state or county to give as gifts to our host families and host schools to thank them. I grew up in Amish Country, Pennsylvania and I had a crap ton of horse and buggy pins. SO many that I had some left over. When I met this family and we got talking, they were curious about where we were from--especially their sons. My friend and I talked to them for the majority of our layover, took a few pictures and gave them our Amish pins (they were so happy it was adorable). I won't ever forget about their kindness and genuine interest not only to listen us but to share their lives with us as well. We ended up in their travel album as well, which is a plus :)
