Self, Friendship + Fate for Faerene, please. 🤍
Self: How is your OC's relationship with themself? Does your OC like who they are? Is there anything about themself that they would change?
Faerene often struggled with self-image. Feeling like she never really fits anywhere was a huge part of her life pre-game. She often tried to act like people around her do, feeling like that's the proper way (esp as someone who was raised in a noble household with all the etiquette in place) but it always made her miserable. She always struggled with trying to find out who she actually is as a person and which mannerisms she adopted are truly hers or just something she does in a desperate need to be accepted. The events of the game effectively remove that safety blanket for her - the circumstances she finds herself in are nothing that she could predict or imagine. But in a way it's freeing. There are no rules, no etiquette to follow, she can only be herself. And that's when she finds out who she really is.
Friendship: What's your OC like as a friend? How are they at making new friends? What are the most important friendships in your OC's life?
Faerene is a very closed off person and quite introverted. She doesn't initiate friendships easily and rather falls into them by circumstance. Before the nautiloid she hasn't really ventured out to broaden her social circle. That being said she can be very warm and loving to her closed ones. She just needs some time getting used to them. She might look distant at first but once you get to know her more she can be very chatty, silly, and quite affectionate. She hasn't really made any close connection before the nautiloid either, the fear of rejection preventing her from trying to reach out. The found family she has is very important to her, especially her connection with Karlach who is like a big sister to her, and Wyll, who always has this soothing presence about him that reminds her that everything will be okay.
Fate: Does your OC believe in destined meetings? True love, soulmates, hearing the bells? Have they ever experienced this?
Faerene's entire life is a product of fate. She was fated to be born out of the roots of a faerie tree and she was destined to venture out and find what happened to her archfey mother. She often felt like fate was this huge force that decides what happens to her in life. In a way it's freeing - you don't have to make decisions if they are made for you. But it was also making her miserable. Was the nautiloid crash also fated? The way her peers treated her as an outcast as a child? Suffering is easier when it has meaning so it was natural for her to leave it all to fate. But it was after the nautiloid crash when she started to question this. What if things just happen? What if there are no destined meetings? What if we are the ones responsible for our own fates? What if we can write our own stories? So in short: she used to believe in things like love at first site. She used to wait for someone like that also. Hoping one day she will meet them, be it her love or just someone to connect with. It never happened. It was only after she stopped hoping for some unknown power to save her that she somehow stumbled upon love. Quite literally so, as no fate could predict her pulling out her future husband out of a rock.
