Gonna answer for The Pack (since I dunno yet for Proxima Skulk, ahah!)

Patrolling is handled as a joint operation between Shamans and the Argent Dog branch known as Scout Dogs! The Shamans cast and read the bones in shifts approximately once every other hour, and use what they read from them to direct the squads of Scout Dogs out to the locations that might be at risk generally. In times of high risk, the Shamans actually go out and patrol with the Scout Dogs. While The Pack has an absolutely massive territory, it’s not until one gets pretty deep into it that The Pack starts to have an issue. The scent markers on the borders are renewed every now and again by various species on hand, and there are sectional scent markers within the territory itself - the thicker the scent, the greater the warning basically! The Scout Dogs are fast and always loud, they let out what’s called the War Roar as a whole when someone or something uninvited has passed a certain depth point in The Pack’s territory. On the flip side, if you’re welcomed by The Pack - then the Scout Dogs are what welcomes you.

Hunting is handled by the Attack Dog/Defense Dog pairs! Basically whichever ones are awake early enough to catch Alpha as he goes gets to embark on this big Hunting Party thing with him. (But only if both Attack and Defense Dog are up and at ‘em! If either is still asleep, then it’s a no go) The pairs hunt down and bring back whatever they catch alive, and the ones who bring back the best prey is allowed to kill whatever they caught. Alpha kills the rest and carries all of the food back on his massive back. If there’s a shortage of food during the day, Alpha will call for volunteers, and the ones who praise his name the loudest are the ones who get to go hunting and drag back the living prey. It’s probably really terrifying for the prey, ahah.

Bonus bit!

Alpha distributes the rations - literally ripping the prey apart and setting it down for the other ranks. Growers eat first, then the Shamans, then the Rust Pups, and then fiiinally the Argent Dogs, which have all gotten into fights by that time to determine who among them gets first meat.

i think it did start in moonbase alpha. i totally forgot abt that. those memes were fresh and ripe and we cultivated them
