I read this in one of two ways.

The first - by now, it is well established that Ritsu embodies a lot of the Protective Brother trope. He’s vicious to those who seem like they may be a threat to his brother’s mental wellbeing or may treat Shigeo like he’s a sideshow freak. He spoils his brother (unbending the spoons Mob bends) and chides him about taking better care of himself.

So this very well could just be that protectiveness played out to it’s logical conclusion.

But I think there’s something else underlying Ritsu’s thoughts. When I mentioned before that the voice actors are fucking brilliant, I meant it.

I’m not sure I heard correctly, or maybe I was just hearing things, but when Ritsu said this...I heard fear.

Think about it. Ritsu is one of (presumably) two people who’ve seen and witnessed firsthand just what Mob is capable of when he is hurt. Ritsu got badly hurt, after all, when a bunch of delinquents (who - coincidentally or not - look a lot like the delinquents bothering Mob in the previous scene) awoke ???%.

And I still remember Ritsu’s face, at the very end of episode five. That absolute fear and fucking terror as he remembered what he went through that day. That thing living in his brother’s body.

I don’t doubt that there isn’t a fair bit of I need to protect my brother in this.

But Ritsu has every reason in the world to make sure that Mob doesn’t get stressed out or hurt - because he’s seen what happens when his brother does.
