fic prompt: skimmons + "wait don’t get out of the car yet, this is a good song”
You know what I’m listening to.
When Jemma reaches for the keys to switch off the ignition, Daisy’s hand shoots out and grabs her wrist. “Don’t!”
The only possible response is to stare at Daisy like she’s completely lost her mind.
Which, for the record, Jemma is pretty sure she has.
Jemma’s fingers remain outstretched, almost brushing the keys, though she’s afraid to make an attempt to reach for them again. “Uh…”
“We can’t get out of the car yet,” Daisy says, “this is a good song. And,” she adds, “I’m going to overlook the fact that you just tried to turn it off.”
Jemma knows a lot cause when she sees one. So she lets her hand fall into her lap, though the expression on her face doesn’t change. “This is the song you want to stay in the car for?”
Just when she thinks she knows everything there is to know about one Agent Johnson, Daisy proves to be full of surprises.
In response to Jemma’s question, Daisy just turns up the volume on the car stereo until the windows are practically vibrating with the strains of “Waterloo.” Something Jemma never thought she would actually see in real life.
She never thought she would ever be in a position where she had to sit in the car and listen to someone belt out the words to a forty-year-old pop song like it was her last act on Earth.
Jemma rolls her eyes at Daisy’s theatrics. “People are staring.”
“They’re just jealous that we’re enjoying this amazing song and they aren’t.”
“Is this song really that great?” Jemma poses this like she’s acting a very deep and important philosophical question.
“I’m going to assume that was a rhetorical question,” Daisy says, before launching back into the chorus of the song again, her voice rising above the radio.
Jemma doesn’t really mind so much that they’re getting plenty of attention from the people in the parking lot when Daisy looks at her and sings, “Promise to love you forever more.”
After that, it seems only logical to join in and start singing too. It’s too catchy to avoid for long. “Couldn’t escape if I wanted to.”
Realized I can actually post this here
I am FINALLY back to writing The Ghost of You. This chapter is going to be so much fun.
Mello, I am so sorry for what I am about to do to you.
