Capella, α Aurigae // Scott Fisher
Capella (α Aurigae) is the brightest star in Auriga, the Charioteer, and the sixth-brightest star in the night sky. Although it appears to be a single star by eye, it is actually a quadruple star system organized in two binary pairs. One pair is two yellow giants, while the other pair is two red dwarfs. The entire system lies about 43 light years away. The name "Capella" is Latin for (small) female goat.

The brightest star in Auriga, Capella (α Aurigae) is a relatively close yellow-white giant star located only about 43 light years away. Capella is a quadruple star system composed of two yellow-white giants and two small red dwarfs. The primary star is about 2.5 times the mass of the Sun and 12 times the size of the Sun.
The name Capella is Latin for "[small] female goat". Its name is honor of Greek mythology representing the goat Amalthea that suckled Zeus as an infant. It was this goat whose horn, after accidentally being broken off by Zeus, was transformed into the Cornucopia which would be filled with whatever its owner desired.
