Ronnie was at the house picking up the last of her things from childhood. The old onesies their mom demanded they keep and the baby blanket that Ronnie slept with until she was seven. Bradley tried not to fidget or keep his distance as he helped her with the box. But it was hard when she smelled like another Alpha and was about to have his first pup.
"When're you due again?" he asked as he set the box down on the table in the entryway.
Ronnie struggled down the last few steps with a hand pressed into her lower back. She chuckled, relieved when she finally made it. "Literally any day now."
"Come on, sit down for a sec." He urged her into the living room where she gratefully lowered herself down onto the couch, hands absentmindedly running over her large belly. Brad shifted on his feet as he watched her. "You nervous?"
"No, not really." Ronnie shrugged as she smiled up at him. "You know I always wanted kids."
Ever since becoming the Luna of Red Sky Pack, Ronnie had this assurance around her that had never been there before. This calm confidence. A certain kind of power.
Brad nodded. "Yeah."
The sound of tires crunching over gravel floated in from outside. Ronnie made a small noise as she pulled herself off of the couch with a bit of help from her brother.
"That's Jake. I'll make sure to text you when baby decides to make their entrance."
Bradley walked her out the door. Throwing a curt nod at Jake who remained in the driver's seat of his truck as Brad put the box in the bed. Ronnie was apprehensive as she looked up at her brother, lip caught between her teeth as she mulled something over. But Brad knew what she was thinking about. He grew up with her, knew her like the back of his hand.
He may not have been her Alpha anymore, but he was still her brother.
"That kid's gonna be the most insanely loved baby in the world," he said as he pulled her in for a hug. "You know that, right?"
She wrapped her arms around him as best she could with the belly in the way. "Yeah. I know."
After that, she got inside the truck and drove away. And Brad watched her leave.
