It has been a hard couple of days so @itsjustme0914 decided that we needed a good family meal for Memorial Day.

He made us Char Siu Pork from @alanakysar Aloha Kitchen. Both girls absolutely loved this meal! It was sweet and perfectly cooked.

As we continue this #bookishbites789 adventure, tonight Josh made Maui-Style Kalbi Short Ribs from @alanakysar Aloha Kitchen. The process actually started yesterday with a 24 hour marinade, and the end result was worth the wait! You may notice these ribs donât look like the traditional ribs you would get if you ordered a rack of ribs, and that is because they are butchered Korean or flanken style. The end flavor is sweet and tangy and soooooo delicious!

Escaping my house to grab a quick snack of Butter Mochi from @alanakysar Aloha Kitchen and to read a few more chapters of Molokaâi. The Butter Mochi is even better today than it was last night when it was freshly made for dessert! It is sweet and just the right amount of coconut!

As for Molokaâi I am completely sucked in. This story is heartbreaking on so many levels. As a mother I look at the main character Rachel and think how can a mother go through this and not give up living. And then I look at my own daughters who are a few years older than Rachel and canât imagine them being in her shoes. Being only seven years old and ripped from your family due to a disease that nobody understands. I donât usually write in my books but this books has me flagging pages, and underlining passages.

These were easy and delicious! A perfect weeknight meal. I also made a batch of Butter Mochi and canât wait to curl up with a slice a Molokaâi to read tonight! I am about 100 pages in and I am completely sucked into the story.

The two recipes I made yesterday were Sweet Bread Rolls and Beef Stew. Now you may be thinking how is beef stew a Hawaiian dish, and I am here to tell you this was different from any beef stew I have had before! It is thick and flavorful, and cooked low and slow over many hours. Each bites had different layers of flavor, and was perfect for the cold rainy day we were having yesterday. The Sweet Bread Rolls are also something you start earlier in the day and then enjoy after hours of letting them rise to perfection. They are sweet and soft, and absolutely perfect for wiping your bowl clean of every last bit of stew!

Another great place near UNLV that has great prices, it was my first time ordering the Fried Saimin but it wonât be my last. The portion was pretty big and had a ramen feel to it.Â
