the way both Shiro and Lance deal with the death of their significant other sat with me really badly and I don’t have the words to properly explain myself rn but it’s homophobic and racist respectfully
racist because Lance, as far as we are told never gets to find love again. He gets to live the rest of his life alone mourning Allura, his dead girlfriend from his teen years. And this pain is literally a part of him forever (Altean marks) and they literally tell us he spend his life spreading her message as some sort of substitute?? It’s so messed up
homophobic because Shiro never gets to mourn Adam other than saying his name at a wall. Adam who he was engaged too and there for had a serious adult relationship with and had thought about sharing the rest of his life with him. Not only is he not allowed to mourn him, he moves on really quick and is married within what? a year/two of the end fight?
These are both incredible shitty ways to show death and mourning.
I’m not getting into Allura’s death because there’s been enough people explaining how messed up it is much better than I could - but there’s that lovely detail too.
