He couldnât save him. The only one the blonde had left, the only one who kept Ed going. Alphonse was dead, he was dead and it was all Edwards fault. The blonde felt lost, he didnât know what to do. If he was in the base, he locked himself in his room. If he wasnât at the base, he was on the train, riding them until he was kicked off.
Finally after weeks, he had left his room, running into Maes in the hall and he had started to break down. He would not cry, not here. Not now but he couldnât stop his body from shaking but he only shook worse when he was brought into the others arms.
âIt was my fault⊠It was always my fault..â He said quietly.
âItâs not your fault.â Maes repeats it as carefully and slowly as he can as if itâs the only way that it would go into the otherâs head. In light of recent events, and what the boy had been doing, and how much he hid away from prying eyes and stayed to his own..Â
It was the only thing he could think to do to just keep him held tight.
âI know it might look like it. You might think it.. But youâre wrong, Edward. I know you. I know, you wouldnât just let this happen. Whatever happened was beyond your control.â He hated saying any of this. It shouldnât have happened, and there were no excuses as to why he was dead. As to why, Alphonse was gone. But there was no reason Edward should blame himself.. However, he knew he would either way. No matter what Hughes said, because he couldnât change what Edwardâs brain was telling him.
