In which a planned Valentine’s Day date goes awry...or does it?

Valentine’s Special 5/11

The sound of mouse clicks and the furious tapping of keys could be heard through your headphones as you Skyped your boyfriend. You looked up from your homework to see his concentrated face on your screen, tongue sticking out in concentration, and couldn't help but smile. 

"Yah, yah! Woo Jin, what are you doing?!" 

The rate of clicks and taps increased greatly until after a couple for minutes the round ended and Ji Hoon slumped back into his chair in relief, glad that his team managed to win the game near the very end. 

"Tough round?" 

He looked over to you through the screen and smiled, leaning closer to the computer. 

"Yeah, I can't believe Woo Jin made that mistake but we managed to save it in the end. How's your homework going?" 

"It's going, but probably not as exciting as things are for you over there." 

He grinned and you couldn't help but fall for him all over again. 

"By the way, shouldn't you be doing this homework too? It is due tomorrow." 

You arched an eyebrow, giving him a look through the webcam, only to see him scratching the back if his neck nervously. 

"Yes... But after the next round. I promise I'll get it finished!" 

"Remember what you said last time?" 

You could see him flush red through the screen and had to hold back a laugh.

"I'm serious this time around!" 

"Okay, Ji Hoonie. I'll trust you..." 

"I'll do it!" he said with a pout, and you cracked a grin at this reaction. 

Shortly there after you saw the screen light reflect on his face, signaling a new round was beginning.  

"Babe, another round is starting. I'll call you back later?" 

"All right, have fun oppa." 

"Will do!" 

With a last wave Ji Hoon ended the call and you were left alone in your room. You were going to ask him about Valentine's tomorrow, just to see if he remembered your plans, but decided not to worry about it. He may have forgotten about homework, but he wouldn't forget about your first Valentine's together. With that thought in mind, you happily finished your homework and then got ready for bed. 

When you woke up the next morning, you took the time to make yourself pretty for the day, hoping that Ji Hoon would notice. After eating a quick breakfast, you grabbed your gift for him and headed off to school. Arriving a bit early, you walked into homeroom and saw Ji Hoon scribbling quickly at his desk and walked up to him with a smile. 

"Oppa!" 

"O.. Oh, Y/N. Sorry, I'm working on the homework. I'm almost done!" 

You sighed and took the seat next to him, waiting for him to finish. 

"I knew this would happen." He looked over and smiled sheepishly at you. "Sorry... But..." You rolled your eyes and took out your own homework. 

"Which one did you need help on?" And so the rest of the morning was spent helping Ji Hoon finish his homework before it was due, which he luckily did with your help. When it was time for lunch, he gave you a hug while you both were walking to the cafeteria.

"You're the best girlfriend, Y/N!" 

You gave him a look after he pulled away, but he grabbed your hand in earnest. 

"I know, I know, I shouldn't have played games late into the night. But I managed to come to school early and work on it! I didn't even need your help for most of it!" 

"I'm beginning to question your trustworthiness, Ji Hoonie...." 

"I'm serious, Y/N!" 

You looked into his eyes and your resolve broke immediately. Shaking your head, you cracked a smile. 

"All right, you can start by making it up for today." 

"What do you want to do?" He kept a hold of your hand as you both arrived at the cafeteria, him leading you towards the lunch line. 

 "What do you mean what do I want to do? We already made plans for today." 

He looked at the food available, brows furrowed. 

"What's so special about today that we made plans?" 

You couldn't believe him. You both had talked about this just a few days ago. He was supposed to take you to the amusement park for your date on Valentine's Day, and he completely forgot. This was what you got for talking to him while he was gaming. 

"Today is Valentine's... Did you really not remember?" 

Realization dawned on his face and that was when your suspicions were confirmed. Pulling your hand out of his grasp, you turned and left the cafeteria in a hurry, trying to hold in your tears. You ended up not eating lunch and cried in the bathroom. It was childish really, but you couldn't help feeling upset. When class adjourned again, you ignored Ji Hoon, who tried his best to get your attention. Once the bell rang at the end of the day, you walked by his desk and placed his gift in front of him. 

"Happy Valentine's, Ji Hoon," you said monotonously before walking away. 

After you left the classroom, Ji Hoon sat dejectedly in his seat. He ruined it big time, and when Woo Jin came by, he could tell that something was wrong.

"Dude what happened?”

“I was supposed to go on a date with Y/N today for Valentine’s but completely forgot. I didn't even think to get her a gift for today..." 

Woo Jin took a look at the gift Ji Hoon had opened on his desk after you left and let out a low whistle.

“Dude, she got you a giftcard for League....”

“She’s the most understanding person ever. This isn’t the first time I’ve forgotten something...but I think I messed up majorly today.”

“So you’re gonna make it up to her right? Like right now? Don’t tell me you’re just gonna sit there and mope?”

“Do you think she’ll forgive me?”

“Only if you get off your butt and do something.”

And so that was how Ji Hoon found himself at your house dressed up for a date, and a bouquet of roses and hyacinths, anxiously shifting his feet while he waited for you to open the door. When you did, you were surprised but tried to keep your face straight.

“What are you doing here, Ji Hoon?”

He held the bouquet out to you.

“I’m here to apologize for being forgetful and inconsiderate. I know you were looking forward to today, and I completely forgot about it because of some stupid game. You’ve been so understanding and forgiving, so I took it for granted. I’m sorry, and if you’re still up for it...would you like to go on a date with me?”

He waited for your answer, biting his lip nervously as he tried to read your expression. You decided to wait it out just for a bit of revenge before smiling.

“I’ll accept on two conditions.”

“Deal.”

“I haven’t even told you the conditions yet,” you said with an amused smile.

“If I know you, it isn’t going to be unreasonable, and if anything, it’ll be for my own good. So yes, I agree.”

“So that means you’ll focus more on your school work and spend more time with me instead of gaming so much?”

“Cross my heart and hope to die.”

You giggled and accepted the bouquet, taking in the light floral scent of the flowers.

“All right Ji Hoonie, let me put these in my room and I’ll be right out.”

You turned to head back into your house but was stopped momentarily.

“Y/N.”

Turning around, you gave Ji Hoon a questioning look.

“Hm?”

“I didn’t get to tell your earlier...but you look really pretty today,” he said with a shy smile.

You grinned back in return and leaned in to peck his cheek.

“Thanks oppa, I’m glad to hear that.”

And so you left him there blushing on the porch, but only briefly before you were out again, and he took you to the amusement park as planned for your first Valentine’s Day date together.
