Miles Morales: Spider-man #1 (2016)
SPIDER-MAN #1 APRIL 2016 BY BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS AND SARA PICHELLI
SYNOPSIS
Miles Morales is performing poorly at school, and it doesn’t seem to be improving when Blackheart attacks Manhattan and takes down all the Avengers.
REVIEW
So this is post Secret Wars, Miles is now in the main universe (616) and his mom is alive again. This means there are two Spider-men around. It would make sense to put Peter in the first issue (this was his title after all).
I am not expecting this story too move fast, so I am looking for little character moments. Ganke has become a bit obsessed with women (or Miles’ love life). While this is possible, I feel like he has lost a place in the spotlight. This happens a lot with Spider-man, but at least in Peter’s case, he moved to college or out of college for those cast changes.
As an introduction to the “new normal” this issue is ok. And we should be grateful Sara Pichelli is still coming back for this #1 (this is like the third number one I have to review with Miles).
I give the issue a score of 8
