The Deceiver had worked quietly behind the scenes for centuries and thought his time had come. Before he could move against the Great Spirit his plot was discovered and thwarted. He and his followers were exiled from Guardian society. As he stood before the Great Spirit he struck a mighty blow and cursed all those who had remained loyal. Their gifts were turned against them and a seed of darkness was planted in each of the houses. The seed would be present in each generation to come. As time passes the seed would grow and each guardian would be tempted to abuse their gift. Any who choose to give in to the darkness forfeit their soul and become Serpent. The family that thwarted his plot was given an additional curse. They were shifters with a close affinity for wolves. Because they were exiled during a full moon, the family that thwarted him now would be forced to turn into a half wolf during the 12 full moons of a year. During this time they would loose all sense of self and control. The Great Spirit countered the curse by stating only the beams from the 12 moons would trigger the change. When the rare 13th moon occurs in a year the family would be spared from the change. This designation made the occurrence to be called a ‘Wolf’s Moon’ and marked it as a sacred event. You would know it as a ‘Blue Moon’.

In the beginning people lived in harmony with nature. They were essentially good. Then the Deceiver came and enticed people to turn their backs on the Great Spirit. Not all were fooled however. Among those who remained a couple was asked by the Great Spirit to be his advocates among all nations. His Guardians. To honor their service and aid them in their tasks they and their offspring were blessed with long life and many gifts.

Time passed and with its passing the world began to change. There came to be many people who denied the existence of the Great Spirit. The Deceiver lured many to follow in his ways instead. As punishment all those who choose to follow the Deceiver are cursed and given the mark of a forked tongue. In retaliation they began to strike out at all others. And thus began the centuries long war between Guardians and Serpents.
