Caring for S/O When Sick

Alistair – Being sick is never fun, especially for this light hearted goofball. He hates having to ask you for help when he’s sick but when you yourself fall ill he absolutely goes out of his way to make sure you’re taken care of. Blankets? Yes. Soup? Must have. Need a back rub? He’s all over it. He may hover from time to time but he just wants to make sure your okay.  

Zevran – “You’re sick? We can’t have that now!” Does everything he can to make you comfortable and get you back on your feet. Even stuff you don’t ask him to do, like, reading to you or recounting some of his favorite adventures with you or simply cuddling up with you while you rest under a mountain of blankets he probably “found” around camp. 100% will get sick from being close quarters while you try to recover.

Anders – he’s a healer so he’ll know exactly how to help with whatever ails you. While some ailments can be cured practically overnight, others take time and he’s dealt with enough patients to know how to take care of you. He’s confident that he can help you but he still hates to see you sickly so he’ll do what he can to make you smile or feel better, letting the cat sleep with you and wishing it were him.  

Fenris- He’s not the best at expressing emotion but seeing you sick really messes with him. You’re the strongest person he knows and to see you bested by sickness really throws him for a loop and admittedly he isn’t sure what to do. He’s taken care of himself for so long that taking care of someone else is daunting but he is a loyally dedicated man and will do what he can to help. While he may make mistakes he tries his best and to you that’s what counts.

Sebastian- “Your sick? Why are you out here? Please, let’s go inside.” Even if you aren’t deathly sick he will insist on you staying inside and in bed, not lifting a finger as he handles everything for you.  If he isn’t sure what’s wrong he will call a healer to look you over and get instructions on how to care for you, following them to the letter to ensure your speedy recovery.

Iron Bull- “Are you sick? Don’t breathe on me, if I go down we’re all doomed.” He says this with a grin on his face while his eyes betray worry for you. You insist you’re fine but after watching your fighting spirit wearing thin he finally throws you in bed and insists you rest. He’ll make his chargers keep an eye on you when he can’t be there and will watch you for at least a week after you recover just to make sure your at your best.

Cullen- will want to keep a close eye on you, having his scouts and soldiers bring reports to him while keeping you tucked away safely in his bed.  He will climb that ladder a thousand times a day if you need him to, bringing you soup or extra blankets as you need them and medicine to help you get better. He will also check on you constantly making you smile as he doesn’t have to but he just cares that much.

Solas- he’s the most level headed when it comes to tending to you, gently leading you to bed and urging you to stay there while he makes up something to help you feel better. He is a calm presence during your recovery, seeming to know your needs before you even know what they are and will often leave little flowers on your nightstand for you when he can’t be there.

carries his child with him everywhere, even into the war room either rocking the baby to sleep or simply showing the toddler what daddy does all-day

when the child reaches eight years he begins to train them with a sword and shield, wanting to teach them to defend themselves in case anything happens to him

due to his own nightmares, he is often awake to hear his child fussing and will spend hours rocking the baby back to sleep or simply pacing the room with them

you usually find him snoring dead away in the mornings, passed out over the crib his hand cupped around his little “cub” protectively

He is extremely protective, always wanting to know where they are and what they're up to, not to be nosy but just to keep them safe

The Inquisition was scary enough, he’d hate for anything to happen to his child on his watch

While he can be stern there is nothing in the world he wouldn't do for his child

His heart just balloons every time they call him “Papa” “Dada” or “Daddy”

Will take them to his favorite places in Thedas and of course, introduce them to his family

He has a hard time helping do hair but does his best

Like, he’ll be changing diapers and talking to himself, making himself laugh and the baby is just looking at him in awe like 

“What is this man?” 

Seriously though he’s the sweetest dad

He baby proofs everything even when they get old enough to be careful on their own

He loves to tease them in his own dorky way

When they're a baby he often stays up with them throughout the night to let you rest and to be with them

“You worked so hard to get them into the world love, it's the least I can do.”

Def the dad that burns things when he has to cook due to your absence

The child will often ask if he’s okay but he assures them he’s got it 

“I can handle this, a little fire won’t deter me!”

The fire should deter him

But he tries and that's what counts

Sometimes you’ll be sitting with your child, maybe reading or teaching them and he’ll come over and cuddle the both of you, refusing to let you go until his cuddle needs are satisfied 

“Please, just another moment…”

Fenris is not outwardly emotional so when you tell him at first he thinks your joking. Then he notices the bump and realizes this isn’t just some prank you and Varric schemed up to mess with him. His initial emotion is panic but it's that silent existential crisis kind of panic where he just stares into nothing and chugs wine like it's water. He’s extremely anxious in the months leading up to the pregnancy always hovering around you and making sure you don't lift or climb anything you shouldn’t. He loves you very much and he doesn't want anything to hurt you or the baby but he has doubts about his ability to be a father. You liked to joke saying you “had never seen someone so afraid of something so small” but he is. It's a huge responsibility and he isn’t sure if he is ready.

 His first reaction to his baby: They’re so...perfect…

 After the Pregnancy: He won’t put the baby down, even fashioning a sling for his chest to hold them constantly. His instincts just take over and while he is still anxious about it this tiny person is his arms and he wants to protect them. When you feed them he hovers. When you change them he hovers. When you dress them he hovers. Not in a bad way just in an “I want to help however I can” kind of way. You teach him how to change diapers and tie laces and as the child gets older, mash-up and make their food and feed them. He’s a quick learner and is always up for helping you.

 As the child grows: Fenris is a strict father once he gets in the groove of things but it's in a loving way. He doesn't want you around mages or to go off into the woods by yourself though you try to insist that they need to explore and know about the world around them. Fenris insists on teaching them yourselves and you agree, teaching them to read and basic arithmetic as well as with swords and shields. Fenris is a very good weapons user and he teaches his child well how to fight and also how to be safe with their weapon of choice. 

Anders is honestly so wrapped up in his work that he doesn’t even think about being a parent, especially when the two of you have been on the run since Kirkwall. When you aren’t feeling well he examines you and finds out that your pregnant and honestly you are elated at the idea. Anders however is hesitant. Your situation isn’t exactly the best for rearing children but your excitement over it wins him over. Most male figures in his life haven’t been too great so he’s honestly unsure how to even prepare to be a father but your reassurances help him. You tell him no one is ever fully prepared for a baby you just sort of figure it out as you go and he manages to relax. For a while.

His first reaction to his baby: so small, so fragile…

After the pregnancy: Anders defers a lot of the parenting duties to you as he is busy with his traveling clinic and helping his fellow mages but you don’t mind as it keeps you busy and you love your little bundle of joy. The baby works their way into his heart though, crawling around and trying to stand using the tables and chairs for support. He’s fascinated by the child and eventually starts wanting to be home more, watching them as they grow, interacting with them and coming around to helping you with things you need like sitting up with them at night and making food ect…

As the child grows: Anders is a very open and friendly father, willing to teach his child as well as take them with him to his clinic, letting them see the ins and outs of it and learn themselves how to help and read people.
