As the ATVs raced across the desert, delivering the Paladins of Voltron to the safety of the Garrison, an MFE Ares jet kept vigil from the skies. Its pilot had been monitoring the squad’s progress in Plaht City, and was pleased that his cadets had completed their objective adeptly.
Turning his attention back to the domed particle field, the pilot began inputting the required landing codes to be granted ingress into the base. Before he knew it, he’d flown through the proffered opening and was touching down on the tarmac.
The pilot climbed down hastily as a maintenance crew began swarming around his fighter. He spotted the ground vehicles several yards away, surrounded by uniforms and civilians eager to see the Paladins’ return.
He jogged briskly to join them, a nervous energy coursing through his limbs that couldn’t be entirely blamed on the thrill of flight.Â
He slowed his pace as he neared, his eyes crinkling as he watched Katie Holt and Lance McClain’s joyful reunion with their loved ones. Nearby, he found his squad, Hunk, Kieth, Iverson, a trio of what he assumed were Alteans, and...
“Takashi?” the name had slipped past the pilot’s lips before he could stop it. Of course he figured Takashi would be accompanying the Paladins, but...he was not prepared for how unrecognizable the other man had become since that fateful mission to Kerberos. Since that argument.
How much of the man he’d loved was left behind that scar bisecting his face?
“Ah, there’s the Lieutenant of the hour!” Iverson announced with a proud smile. “Adam’s expertise has been paramount in molding the MFE squad into what they are today.”
It was then that the pilot realized he’d forgotten to take his helmet off. Adam quickly lifted it from his head, shaking out the brown locks that had been freed from its confines. Once again, his eyes shot straight to the man he’d accepted as lost in space.
“You changed your hair.” Adam blanched; there went his mouth, blurting out whatever half-baked thought crossed his mind. “I-I mean...I’m happy to see you all here, safe and sound.” He gave respectful nods to everyone gathered around him.
However, his traitorous gaze fell back on Takashi, and he waited with bated breath for some sort of response.
