Cassandra Clare copied a the term shadowhunters and the runes from a book series called The Dark-Hunters that was published in 2001, and they’re suing her for copyright because she was explicitly told she couldn't use SHADOWHUNTERS to name the franchise in any way. By deeming the entirety of the Shadowhunter World books as The Shadowhunter Chronicles she violated the agreement. And she let Freeform use the term as a the TV show’s franchise name as Shadowhunters, so which also violates the agreement.
