“No. She was nice and she was pretty but…” He trailed off, and Sakura ducked her head to hide her smile. “There just wasn’t any chemistry.” She closed her eyes as his words seeped sweetly into her heart and she struggled to find a breath. He turned toward her and Sakura let her eyes flutter open, the sight of him so close to her made her head spin. He glanced down to her mouth, his gaze lingering so long that she feared she would faint before he could kiss her. The world stopped turning and everything around her melted away as Kakashi reached up, his hand hesitating for a brief moment before pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. His fingertips lingered, warm and soft against her jaw.
The Chemicals Between Us, chapter 11 by @alienwritesstuff
Do you ever read something in a fic you’re reading for the third time and get punched by the feels you’re pretty sure you didn’t have the previous two times? As if you missed a highly emotional moment and just sit there like. How could I have ever interpreted it in that other light?
(This is why I love commenting in this way, because I do get insights my dumbass would not notice otherwise.)
Excerpt time!
It's chemistry that he and Sakura DO have! That date served two purposes. One, it gave Kakashi a reason to be out so late and two, Kakashi will have to conclude just how rare this thing he has with Sakura is (something that is so much an almost) and... You know, perhaps that conclusion is what propels him into actually acting in kind to her confessions. It's not something Sakura did, or the vulnerability or happiness she showed this evening (maybe a little) but... it was what came from his introspection. He only jumps into action because Sakura has forced him to put it into words but he is deciding, for his own happiness, that this is a window of opportunity he can't miss. Because the what ifs are worse than what the consequences of this will be.
