akira is obviously understandable since gerard mentioned loving the manga and its artstyle during the interview (one of my favorite interviews hes so nerdy) where we go shopping with him and he introduces his favorite comics and mangas

alienrard was during the hesitant alien era which was 2014 and during the same year peni parker whos character design was obviously highly influenced by evangelion was created and released by gerard. i also read an article talking about how SP//dr (peni's mech suit or robot) was inspired by mech suits fron evangelion. not only that but in this panel below u can see peni's classmates are characters from the anime (shinji, asuka, rei and kaworu) im not sure about this since there is no explicit confirmation but u can obviously see her classmates are inspired by these characters

another thing is if u play marvel rivals and check out peni's skins u can see that all her skins both her and her mech suit are also inspired by the evangelion characters with the similar colors and shape, kinda like the venom skin

these clues shows that gerard definitely watched evangelion and it inspired him therefore causing him to create peni parker. and since gerard released peni during 2014, shortly after the hesitant alien era or even during that era im not sure, its safe to headcanon that alienrard definitely watches evangelion

and lastly ghost in the shell, gerard is a big sci fi fan sooooo alienrard definitely loves ghost in the shell too
