I can go on and on about how Dandadan is impeccable. Each episode feels like a movie. Season 2? OMYGOSH phenomenal.

But can we talk about why people just can't get into it? I really think this needs to be studied (because I'm biased, I think it's going down in our history books for sure). What reasons have you heard?

I've heard "I can't get past the SA part." Um.. welcome to the world of anime?? Guess you're new around here? By no means am I downplaying SA; that is a very serious, weighty topic. But there are at least a dozen anime series where it is present and portrayed in a more realistic/darker (I can't find the right word) way. 'Berserk' is the first that comes to mind, and people LOVE Berserk. Also, I know this is not exactly the same, but fan service has been a thing in anime since anime has been anime. And the fan service is not going anywhere. Have you seen 'Fire Force'?? People who say they are uncomfortable with Dandadan make me feel like they tried watching it as their first anime. I asked my friend if she would recommend Dadandan as a first anime, and she said no for many reasons, which I can share another time. So I guess there's something there.

Another reason I heard was "It's just too chaotic/too much going on." Okay, I get this. Maybe you weren't in the mood for the almost ghost stories level chaos of Dandadan, maybe you wanted a more chill 'Do it yourself!' slice of life vibes. Fair. I felt the same watching the first two episodes of Frieren. I wanted something lighthearted, people I like die before the first commercial break, now I'm not feeling so light-hearted, so instead I watch 'Too Many Losing Heriones'. Don't worry, I will be finishing Frieren this Fall, it'll make more sense to me during a more somber season, mhm. I just hope, when they feel their heart calling for chaos, they give Dandadan another chance.
