#twisted hate

Twisted Hate is right, because I hated this novel. Individually, Josh and Jules are great characters. I like Josh as a brother, and Jules is a good friend to all the girls, especially Ava. That’s why I expected this enemies-to-lovers trope to work well in the end — but I was completely wrong. Huang took “hate sex” to a new level in this book. The moments that made me uncomfortable in Brigit and Rhys’ story were tame compared to this one. When Josh said “I lied” during the climax of the novel, it genuinely felt borderline like sexual assault, and I do not understand why more readers are not pointing out the power imbalance in that moment, or how Jules could not have fully consented given her mental state. That scene was deeply unsettling and completely ruined the book for me.
