Peter felt like complete and utter shit. His sinuses were clogged, his throat burned like all hell, and he was practically hacking up a lung every twenty minutes or so. Not to mention how dizzy and nauseous he felt. Ace stared at him from the other side of the bed with wide eyes, concerned for his well being. No one on his planet had this kind of thing happening to them! Was this it? Was Peter dying?!? He whimpered pitifully as he stared.
"You should really go, you might catch my cold, I don't fuckin' know how your alien biology works." Peter grumbled, shivering despite the thick sheets covering him.
Ace poked his side and whimpered again. He couldn't leave his human alone, not at all! There had to be something, anything he could do to keep his human alive and well. He got up, racing to the living room. Books always seemed to have the answers, somehow. That's how Ace always learned something new! Maybe there was a book on what was wrong with Peter and how to stop it?
He picked up several books, creating a little stack for himself on the coffee table, flipping through sections of pages impatiently. Most of the books made no sense to him, were on drums, cars, things like that, nothing about humans. Ace was already getting frustrated with his search, shoving the books back onto the shelf until one giant book fell onto the ground to a random page. His head tilted, picking it up to observe it.
"Mmmmiiin..min..ey? Stroooney.. soup.. soup! It's a soup! Good.. when.. sick.."
That's exactly what it was! Peter was sick! He let out a happy purr-like noise, reading the instructions slowly. He didn't want to mess this one up, he needed to heal Peter as fast as possible. He knew a lot of these words, maybe not some of the measurements, but he knew the ingredients for sure. Ace immediately set the book down on the counter and rummaged through the fridge for what he knew; carrots, onion, celery, green beans, and he knew where the beans and pasta was. He could do it! He would make Peter the best soup ever and he'd get better in no time.
Peter, of course, had fallen asleep, waking with a cough and looking around his room. His vision was blurry, any lights seemed too bright for him, and he shivered once again. Though his sinuses were mostly clogged and breathing felt like a chore, he could faintly smell something, it reminded him of his mother, strangely. He nuzzled the side of his face further into the pillow below him, eyes fluttering closed again. He wanted to fall asleep but then he heard the door creak open again and the shuffling of feet.
"Peeeterr!"
He opened an eye, looking up to see his alien roommate looking down at him, holding a bowl with a worried look. Peter sniffled, sitting up slowly to get a look at what Ace had done. He half expected some disaster, but was pleasantly surprised to see something edible.
"I made you Mmmii.. soup!"
That he did. Peter took the bowl from his hands and observed the dish, and it looked like a delicious bowl of Minestrone. It smelled like one. He took a spoonful and relaxed. It tasted really fucking good too. Peter was melting, and although his sense of taste was slightly muted, he could somewhat distinguish all of the vegetables that had been used and the spices.
Ace watched over him, little pointed ears perking up when Peter finished off the bowl, a little grin on his face. He took the bowl slowly from his hands, every intention of putting it into the sink and coming back to watch over the human again, but had been stopped in the action. Peter used the small amount of energy he did have to pull Ace down into a hug and mumble a 'thank you' before laying back down. Ace practically glowed, smiling, his heart thumping in his chest. He did something good, he felt proud of himself.
