Curiosity Didn't Kill the Cat
Notes: I had to. This is based off of @itty-bitty-rainbow's Unknown Planet AU. It is actually my favorite AU right now and I wanted to write something for it, so I did! I did my best to stay close to what Rainbow has said happens and took a few personal headcanons I have so far and stuck those in here. I really hope you like it Rainbow!
Quackity panted as he ran through the trees, zig-zagging in hopes of throwing off the small tree-like alien off of his back. However, the nimble alien only chittered in delight as it kept up with the human, never gaining any ground but not falling behind either.
The human didn’t dare to look behind him and continued weaving through the trees. He slid to a sudden stop when a large cliff face blocked his path.
“N-no…”
He ran up to the cliff face, trying to find some way to climb, but no good footholds were low enough for him to lift himself up. Even then, the alien may still be able to reach him.
Pleased growls filled the air, making Quackity whip around to face the alien. It had moved itself down into a crouch and slowly approached, knowing that the human could no longer escape from it. The chase was over. It caught it’s prey.
Quackity pressed himself against the cliff face and desperately began searching for anything he could use to defend himself, but there were nothing but a few stray pebbles in his reach. He squeezed his eyes shut, waiting for his inevitable demise.
It was silent for a few moments, Quackity could only hear his own labored breathing. And then a much louder snarl rung through the air, quickly followed by a pained yelp from what sounded like the wooden alien.
He peeked his eyes open, confused on why the alien was disappearing into the woods, it’s thorny tail disappearing behind the trees. A predator wouldn’t run unless a bigger predator was…
His eyes widened in horror as he looked up. His gaze met with the familiar burning eyes and sharp smile of the magma alien that’s been hunting him since he’s got here. Quackity’s body shook in fear. There were no crevices to hide in, no small space for him to squeeze into. The fiery creature finally got him where he couldn’t escape.
Quackity’s legs suddenly felt weak and his head began to spin. Before he knew it, he collapsed onto the ground, adrenaline from the chase finally wearing off. He was tired. He couldn’t run. The human let his eyes flutter shut and drifted into unconsciousness, not expecting to wake up again.
---
But then he woke up.
Wherever he had fallen asleep was so unusually warm, it was nice. Quackity wanted nothing more than to cuddle up to the heat source and fall back asleep. But he had more pressing matters at hand.
Like why was he still alive?
He pushed himself up to sit and gasped as he realized what was so warm. He was in the magma alien’s hands. The warm obsidian like hands radiated a comforting heat, surprisingly not extremely hot and burning like he thought they would be.
The crackling of fire and a strange gurgling sound above him made him look up. He gasped in horror at the sight.
The magma alien was staring down at him, that terrifyingly sharp grin still present on its face. But standing directly next to it and staring down at Quackity with a confused and awestruck look was the rainbow colored alien who stole his spaceship.
It stared down at him with it’s weird beady eyes, almost like it was studying him. Why wasn’t Quackity dead yet? Two large aliens have him and they’re just… studying him. Like he studies alien life.
Are these things sentient? Quackity looked down at his hands as he began to think. How would he react if he suddenly saw a strange tiny species appear out of nowhere? His eyes widened. He’d react by trying to catch it. Of course. They were curious.
He looked back up at them and they seemed to be communicating with one another, a strange set of growls and gurgles filled the air. The crackling fire from the magma alien’s hair continued flickering and sparking. He glanced over to the strange rainbow alien and noticed the swirls on their body were softly glowing a pale lilac light.
He gasped in awe, wishing to have his notebook back so he could note these strange phenomena. He abandoned that at his old campsite when the smaller alien gave chase.
Quackity was pulled out of his thoughts as a smooth object suddenly prodded at his face. He was quick to grab it and push it away before even registering what it was. At a closer glance it was a pale yellow finger belonging to the rainbow giant. He couldn’t bring himself to let go just yet though, wanting to study why it felt so strange.
The alien let out a soft gurgle, making Quackity glance up at them. Their mouth seemed to be turned up in a small smile and they happily watched Quackity, not making any move to move their finger away.
Hesitantly, Quackity pulled it closer to himself and hugged it to his chest. He watched the alien for a reaction, only earning a confused head tilt. Quackity moved his gaze to the magma alien and was startled to see that toothy smile was no longer present.
He had become so used to them constantly smiling that seeing a closed mouth expression of awe was something he didn’t think he’d ever see. It was strange.
Quackity let go of the finger, giving the alien their appendage back. They only moved it up to pet his hair, gasping in amazement at the supposed feeling. He hadn’t washed in so long, he smiled to himself imagining their reaction if his hair was as soft as it could get after a proper shower.
This was so wrong but strange and fascinating at the same time. He shouldn’t be alive in the giant magma alien’s hands and he shouldn’t be willingly pet by yet another alien, one who stole his spaceship. Yet here he was. Not dead and being studied curiously by some giant aliens.
What did he get himself into?
