It was sort of strange -- everything had happened so quickly for Beckham and his band, theyâd managed to get lucky and their first single had taken off -- but nonetheless, it was still somewhat surreal to be standing on this stage, headlining his own show. It hardly felt real at times, and this was the first time in six months -- the first time since theyâd really gotten big -- that he was back in his hometown, playing a show. This time, not in some tiny little pub or a house party, but a proper venue. Surreal, was the only way he could really sum it up.
âSo this is our last song of the evening, thank you very much for coming out, youâve been very kind to us,â he said, a grin on his face. âAnd this is a song you may know, and itâs my personal favourite... itâs kinda a neat little circle really, the lady I wrote this song about... I met her here, in this very place, over there by the speakers.â Stepping back from the mic for a second, he closed his eyes, listening to the opening bars of the song. The one that had started it all, the one about the girl who had disappeared into the night, and unknowingly, changed his life.
Once it was over, he gave a final wave to the crowd before disappearing backstage, wiping his face off with a towel and accepting the bottle of water that was thrust into his hands. Finishing half of it in one go, he screwed the cap back on before making his way out the back of the venue with the rest of the band.
