The digital revolution isn’t over but has turned into something else
In an intresting new years essay at The Edge George Dyson argues that we now are in a new phase of digitalization.
The search engine is no longer a model of human knowledge, it is human knowledge. What began as a mapping of human meaning now defines human meaning, and has begun to control, rather than simply catalog or index, human thought. No one is at the controls.
And the next step the evolution of machines that are beyond programmable control.
A text worth reading!
An important point here which I also am trying to make is that it is the algorithm which is at the core of the transformation of humanity and even nature. Looking at eye catching families of technologies like AI, VR or Machine Learning are just blurring the perspective. We need to look at the core of the development and that is to understand how algorithms are transforms *everything*.
