Algiers Point, New Orleans
Algiers Point is a historic neighborhood across the Mississippi River. It can be reached by taking a short ferry ride over from the Canal Street Ferry Terminal or driving across the Crescent City Connection. It’s the second oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, first settled in 1719. It’s much quieter, cleaner, and safer.
I walked from the ferry terminal next to the levee, past beautiful old homes and some newer homes.
Algiers has traditionally been a popular spot for jazz musicians to live. There’s a statue of a jazz musician by the ferry building that marks the Jazz Walk of Fame. I walked by a house where a trumpet player lived.
Walking along the levee was peaceful. You can see the boats, Jackson Square, the Riverfront…
I didn’t see a lot of services but I saw a pub and a food market. I also passed by the courthouse and read about how Algiers was often the site that most enslaved people were put on shore to be sold to the surrounding areas.

It was my first time making milk bread so I had to make something cool out of it right? So I made Korean street toast! A cabbage, carrot, green onion, and egg patty sprinkled with a little bit of sugar and topped with grilled ham and melty American cheese with squiggles of ketchup and mayo. 🍞🥪

Ferry to Algiers Point...
Ferry to Algiers Point…
Yesterday we did a little exploration in our sometimes home town of New Orleans. My wife has been reading about the city and there was a passage about Algiers Point, the 2nd oldest part of New Orleans. It is across the Mississippi river so we caught the ferry at the end of Canal street which took us directly to Algiers Point. Here are a few images taken on the way there, while walking around…
