You have any experience with Alchemy Audio mods? I need to get a new Rat, and it looks like the Alchemy Audio mod actually gets much closer to the vintage models than the new ones, plus they add a couple features I may or may not use, and its only $30-50 more. Their Soul Food mods look pretty cool as well, but that's further down the shopping list. Do you know if these mods actually improve the pedals?
I don’t have any experience with their mods unfortunately. In my experience with an awful lot of RATs it hasn’t been worth spending money to get them more “To spec” or anything because I’ve played so many that vary in sound so much. I’ve heard a reissue RAT2 that sounded better than a big box, and I’ve heard boring RAT2s. A lot of factors going on there, but still. Probably not worth the extra skrilla. Probably worth finding something that makes the sound you want. Especially with the enormous quantity of tweaked out RAT variants out there.
