“Can I stay with you?” Rory blurted the question once Harmony had taken the seat in front of him at the Lima Bean.

“What?”

“Can I stay with you?” He repeated more calmly.

“Why? what happened?” She questioned, her brow furrowed “Did something happen with that blond guy you were telling me about last week?, what was his name?”

“Sam”

“Sam, yes. Can’t you stay with him anymore?”

“No, we… kind of had a fight”

“kind of had a fight…” She repeated slowly “Kid of had a fight as in…”

“As in worse than our debacle two years ago” He answered and Harmony winced.

“That bad?”

“Worse than you can imagine” He breathed out.

“But, how? Last week you seemed so good, everything was perfect with him”

“Too good and too perfect!” He blurted out and blushed “H-he likes me” He admitted and Harmony gasped.

“But that’s…! no, Rory, that can’t happen!”

“Yeah, well thank you for pointing the obvious” He sulked.

“I don’t understand, why has neither of you told me anything about it?” She frowned “It’s like I’m not even a part of your lives anymore”

“What makes you th—“

‘’what’s going on?’’ Kurt questioned probably after seeing him down the entire day ‘’Is anything the matter?’’

‘’What?’’ Rory looked up at him and tried to smile, it was to show how different this Kurt was from the one in his future that he smiled back and sat beside him not seeing how fake and broken the gesture was ‘’I’m fine’’ He lied.

‘’Really now?’’ He replied softly and stared at his shirt for a while ‘’That’s a very beautiful ring you have in there’’ He pointed out and Rory gulped, nope his dad wasn’t checking his shirt, he had somehow left the ring hanging out in plain sight.

‘’Please don’t tell’’ He rushed to say hiding the ring and chain inside his clothes again.

‘’Why? What happened?” Kurt’s smile fell

“I... Well it’s complicated”

‘’Blaine’s hair in the mornings is complicated, trust me I can handle whatever you throw my way’’ Thanks Dad, really nice way of throwing in the fact that you and Papa are already having sex with each other, scare me for life, why don't you?

‘’No, this is like really complicated’’ He sighed and looked for Sugar in the room, but she was nowhere to be found, again ‘’It’s like... We can’t be together, we really just can’t, and I’ve tried to tell him so, but he just won’t listen to me, and it’s so frustrating, because I know that I’ll have to leave, and he won’t be able to follow and I won’t be able to come back even if I wanted to, and probably if and when we see each other again it’ll be too late to explain and still so very, very hard, and... He’ll hate me and I won’t be able to take it it’ll break my heart and everyone will be on his side because I’m the one who lied”

“That’s the most I have heard you say in all your time in here” Kurt mocked and placed a comforting had on his shoulder “But really” He stared into his eyes “Everything is as complicated as you want it to be” Rory stared at him amused “Wh—What? Do I have something on my hair or did I say something wr--?”

“No!” He assured “It’s just that my dad used to tell me that whenever I was upset” He cleared out smiling shyly at him “He has a way with words that papa could never have”

Kurt sucked in a breath and it took Rory a moment to realize what exactly he had said, Kurt was staring at him wide eyed as a sudden understanding shone in his eyes, he smiled at him and then reached out to take his hand in his.

“No doubt you have such an understanding in things” He smiled "They raised you well" Kurt praised, himself.

“Sam” Rory sighed looking around the halls to check that no one was eavesdropping on them “I can’t, I really, really can’t”

“But why?” The blond one questioned leaning against a locker behind him “Give me one good reason and I’ll leave you alone”

“I just can’t, ok? I don’t belong here”

“Don’t say that” He snapped “All I’m asking is a good reason, Rory”

“You wouldn’t understand” He mumbled and closed his locker, Sam wouldn’t understand, he knew that, no one would, he just had to remain silent and walk away. If only Sugar hadn’t skipped classes today, she would keep Sam busy so that he could get away, but she wasn’t here, and Sam was looking at him with angry eyes, why time travel had to be so fucking difficult? “That’s the truth Sam, I don’t belong here and you wouldn’t understand my reasons to say that”

He tried to walk away but an arm curled around his waist and kept him in place.

“Then help me to understand” Sam whispered in his ear, his breath warm against his skin “Help me”

“N-no” He shuddered “Please don’t do this, don’t ask me this”

“Fine” He sighed.

The arm disappeared and Sam stepped back, suddenly the hall was too big and his body too cold.

“I’ll give you this” Sam smiled and held his hand for just a moment “Just because I know why you can’t give me a reason to stay away, because you want this as much as I do, and I’ll fight for you against everything and everyone, even against yourself”

“I promise I didn’t mean to” Harmony exclaimed once Rory and Sugar had stopped accusing her “It’s just that... Well, I had to do it, you know? Those guys, and those girls, they were all so very nice to me, and said that I had a nice voice and asked me to be in this club, not really a Glee club, but a club for people who wanted to apply to NYADA, and mom’s always speaking about it, and I really wanted to know how it was like, and then everyone was talking about how good my voice was, and I know I’m good, ok? So I wasn’t fishing for compliments o—or anything, I just wanted to belong in the group, and they said we had to scare away the competition and we armed a number in like, two minutes and it was amazing, guys really amazing, like when we all gathered to sing back when we were younger, and I missed that, and then...” She sighed and looked away from her cousins “Mom and uncle Kurt arrived and I was already in the mood, if you know what I’m saying“ She crinkled her noise a little, but kept going unable to look at both of her friends anymore “I thought she would like it, but then again she doesn’t know she’s my mom... So I’m sorry, guys but I just wanted to be a part of the group, you are there, with them and I’m here, alone... I’m just not used to it, I miss Hannah so much, and I know that you miss Cameron” She looked at Rory “And I’m sure you miss Emily just as much, but it’s not the same, you have your moms and you have your dads, now, what do I have?” Her voice cracked a little and immediately she had been embraced by Sugar, Rory still looked slightly awkward with her, but she couldn’t blame him, could she? After everything that had happened between them.

“You are my best friend” Sugar promised “And I want you at McKinley I really do, I want you there with our parents having fun at Glee club like we used to but...”

“We don’t know if that’s possible” Rory finished for her, eyes downcast and brow furrowed “We don’t even know what brought us here, or why, we don’t know why the Pierce family was waiting for me, or how could Sugar have her own family...”

“Or why I got here of all places” Harmony finished his sentence, looking around to her classmates that had been giving them strange looks as they talked “I know all that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t feel bad about it once in a while”

“We all feel that way” Rory assured.

“Speak for your self Leprechaun “She mocked  “I’m having the time of my life with the Troubletones, did you know that my mom is the worst bully in the history of bullies?” Sugar kept saying even though people was starting to turn their heads in their directions “She never told me she could be that mean, she... She was cruel to Rory and to me “Sugar whinged stomping her feet on the floor” So maybe it is better for you to be here”

“Maybe” She accepted with a little smile, behind her Joe and Angie were staring at her with the look that meant they were very close to go and do something if she wasn’t comfortable with their conversation “And what about you, Rory?”

“What about me?”

“How are Kurt and Blaine?”

“Good” He replied “As always, I mean I haven’t really talked to them, I’ve seen them on the halls and at my audition, but in al reality I couldn’t tell you much”

“And my moms?”

“They hate each other” Sugar prompted.
