I know kids like Jake exist. Kids who love dressing feminine and kids who have their gender sorted out before their 6 years old. I know some parents shrug it off as a phase and I know some parents who would turn a blind eye to their child's way of expression. But this felt really hard to believe. Watching this felt very clinical. It felt like I was spying on someone's therapy session. Maybe because I found it hard to believe the relationship between Alex and Greg. Claire and Jim felt like having to play a loving couple to each other was almost betraying their real relationship and they just wanted this to be over and done with. The title frustrated me, it's titled "a kid like jake" but his barely in it and when he is,jake is portrayed as a kid who hates being told no. I didn't even understand the whole point of Amal especially during the restaurant scene. I was also thrown off by Judy's remark of "do you think this has something to do with my sexual orientation? This isn't a political agenda" . Of course me being me,I automatically assumed Judy was straight. So, i didn't understand that piece of dialogue. It isn't until further down,we learn that Judy is a lesbian. I still didn't understand why that piece of dialogue was important. This just felt very cold to watch. Em tempos de escola sem partido e da famigerada discussão sobre ideologia de gênero, pregada pela extrema direita e pauta do atual governo brasileiro, o filme deveria conversar com esses novos modelos familiares e servir, ou de exemplo ou como norte para pais que se deparam com essas realidades. Mas o filme não consegue nem uma coisa nem outra, e isso se dá pelo roteiro canhestro e pelas escolhas do elenco. A dupla de pais formada por Jim Parsons e Claire Danes não convencem e o filme derrapa em todas as tentativas de ser relevante.
