A.K. Burns’ recent work, A Smeary Spot, reimagines the genre of science fiction wherein both documentary and fantasy construct a narrative of bodies in transition and their relationship to nature, technology, territories and resources. Drawing on the work of a wide range writer/thinkers form the likes of Johanna Russ and Octavia Butler to Leo Bersani and Karen Barad, Burns’ work extends questions of assimilation, intentional community, agential realism to material and sonic form. Her research at collective address will take the form of audio experiments and recording sessions with other artists as well as a sound stage for the filming of the work.
