eldritch  entities  rove  the  boundary  between  the  living  &  dead,   their  maws  an  occluding  chasm  of  rows  of  teeth,   their  eyes  pinpricks  of  black  against  swarming  color.  they  were  disparate  to  their  kin  who  plagued  the  near - shore ,  their  bulbous  forms  flocculent  pinks  or  blues,  curiosity  their  most  prominent  sin.   those  who  encountered  them  were  mildly  inconvenienced ,  here  ,   he  was  certain  he  would  have  been  dead  had  it  not  been  for  the   precision  of  blade  &   hands.   he  cleaves  deftly  through  undulating  flesh ,  blood  gushing  from  soft  ,  serrated  edges  of  their  carapaces.  his  chest  rises  &  falls  &  the  adrenaline  has  him  certain  this  is  as  close  to  death’s  threshold  that  he  had  ever  been.
