“Some of the best people I know are creatures, and most of the worst think they are not.”
This book was a RIOT. Hilarious but also so full of heart. Toto’s narration was pure perfection, no notes.

Weird & Wonderful Wednesday
Saying that Toto is the retelling of The Wizard of Oz from the doggo’s point of view is sorta short selling it. Toto is a ‘bad dog’ and Animal Control is after him in Kansas. So, when he and Dorothy get swept into Oz, he’s of two minds about it. And, boy does he have opinions as he, Dorothy, and the people they meet journey to meet the Wizard in Emerald City.
The book was different in other ways too. It’s not set around the early 1900s like the book/movie was. And, we also get to meet Crow, the blue jay, who is quite the character for sure, as well as some new places in addition to the new faces. It’s a really fun and different look at the basic story that most already know. New stuff mixed with the original stuff, and done in what I thought was a balanced way. Definitely up there with Wicked in a good look from a different point of view of this classic story.

February read for book club! This was our first time continuing on to the second book in a series, with somewhat disappointing results. But we're committed now, so here's to hoping book 3 is better.
Have you read The Library of the Unwritten by AJ Hackwith (2019)?
YES
NO
“ Stories want to change, and it is a librarian’s job to preserve them; that’s the natural order of things. The Unwritten Wing of the Library, for all its infinite magic and mystery, is in some ways a futile project. No story, written or unwritten, is static. Left abandoned too long and given the right stimulation, a book goes wrong in the head. It is a story’s natural ambition to wake up and start telling itself to the world. ”

He remembered a constellation of stars falling through his hands.
There were two parts to any unwritten book. Its words- the twisting, changing text on the page- and its story. Most of the time, the two parts were united in the books filling the Unwritten Wing's stacks, but now and then a book woke up. Felt it had a purpose beyond words on a page. Then the story made itself into one of its characters and went walking.
