It's a bit of a tangent, but I'd been wondering if Hakuouki ever touched upon this happening. As soon as I read the first picture, I know which direction it was going, and I'm glad it answered one of the questions I had.

In spring 2024, the "spot with the best view" looked like this:

It's on the hills surrounding Aizu, giving a wonderful view on the castle grounds and the town surrounding it, framed by the mountains in the back.

Modern sympathisers have since also erected a memorial in honour of Hijikata himself, and those who died in the battles of Ezo. It's a bit of a climb, but if you're ever in the vicinity, it's worth a visit.
