Ihlenfeldtia excavata
Ihlenfeldtia is a small genus in the Aizoaceae, or Ice Plant Family. Its short succulent bluish leaves give no hint of the fireworks that emerge when it flowers, and the show is especially colorful because the flowers start out pale pink, then change to pale yellow and then finally to orange. A show-stopper! From Namaqualand in northwestern South Africa.

Were pleasantly surprised to see the iceplant blooming all at once in the succulent section of the conservatory.

Some of my little guys
Mesembs are succulents that mimic their environment, they are among the most drought-tolerant plant species. See how this faceted-quartz-like Karoo rose (Lapidaria margaretae) matches its habitat (white quartz plain in Namaqualand) perfectly in South Africa.
