This probably sounds incredibly dumb to most of you, but f you read much of what I write, usually at least one major character (usually one of the protagonists) is left-handed. When I was in middle school, a character’s handed-ness was something I put on character sheets so everyone I shared the story with would know.

Left-handed characters are something that matter to me. Reason one: there are very many. Reason two: the ones we get are usually villains or assholes. And this isn’t quite as subconscious as you might assume. Tom Cruise is a lefty in real life, yet when he’s playing a hero on the Big Screen, he’s playing them right-handed. Except, of course, when he’s playing an anti-hero, then it’s okay to play them left-handed.

I’m kind of done with this.

Most people assume lefty’s don’t have any systemic societal problems anymore because no one wants to beat it out of us or thinks we’re devil spawn anymore. First off, that’s not actually entirely true. Second, that doesn’t change the centuries and millennia of society building equipment and designing equipment and buying equipment for right-handed people. I cannot go to a store and buy a pair of left-handed scissors.  I have to buy them online with a surcharge for being for lefties.

Lefties have a shorter life-expectancy, specifically because we get into more accidents because nothing is made for us to use properly and with coordination.

Right-handed people don’t notice any of this, so nothing changes.
