the way you said I love you-
6. On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, the late sunlight glowing in your hair
Theyâd stopped on Aislynâs private balcony, leaning out to watch over the mountainscape. Skyhold felt like it was on top of the world, miles away from any threat or judgement. There was something peaceful in looking down and seeing nothing but an endless expanse of sky all around you.
Were it not for the Inquisitionâs occupation, Skyhold wouldâve made a lovely home for Ătienne. A small corner of the world for him, tucked away in the clouds. He seemed a lot more comfortable here than in Haven.
Aislyn watched Ătienne visibly relax each time he opened the balcony doors and the cool mountain air hit him. Something about being high up helped them both. Close to the sky, close to the sun, getting a birdâs eye view of everything the Inquisition had built.
âIt doesnât feel real, does it?â Ătienne asked quietly.
Snapping from his reverie, Aislyn glanced to Ătienne. âWhat doesnât feel real?â
âThis whole situation, I guess. We went from Haven to here in what, two weeks?
âCloser to three.â Aislyn mused.
Ătienne shrugged. âItâs a big move. Feels like itâs a dream. Feels like Iâm going to wake up in Haven, or back home, and this will have never happened.â
âMaybe you will. Maybe it is a dream.â
âMost of me hopes it isnât.â
âBecause I love you.â Ătienne said bluntly.
Aislyn stared for a moment, finding nothing but honesty in Ătienneâs eyes. The sunlight bathed him a golden glow as he glanced away, pursing his lips.
âI just⌠thought you should know.â Ătienne murmured. âBefore I lose the chance to tell you.â
The distance between them was closed in a heartbeat as Aislyn threw his arms around Ătienne, burying his face against the crook of his neck. He felt Ătienneâs arms wrap around him in turn. Soft lips pressed against his forehead, a quiet sigh escaping Ătienne.
âI thought Iâd never get to tell you, back when we lost Haven. Thought Iâd lost you too. So⌠I love you. And you should know. Before I donât have the chance to tell you.â Etienne whispered.
âI love you too.â Aislyn whispered.
A long silence fell upon them. Aislyn remained still, clinging to Ătienne with everything he had. Only when felt Ătienne start to get antsy did he let go.
â... I didnât plan what to say after that.â Ătienne admitted.
âYou could say âI love you,â again. Thatâd be nice.â Aislyn grinned.
Ătienne brushed Aislynâs hair from his eyes and chuckled. âI love you. Now letâs go get something to drink before we start talking ourselves in circles.â
