How many ordinary people have a chance actually go to a prison to see inmates’ life? Danny Lyon’s photography project “Conversations with the Dead” gives us the adventure.Â
This piece is the combination of art and journalism. It is so artistic that I thought this setting was faked by the photographer when I saw it for the first time. Women’s old photos, a beautiful large flowers, cold cell bars, and the young man behind it with desperate and blue in eyes... It is a great work of new journalism. Danny Lyon spent 14 months in 1967-1968 photographing inmates, building up telling and detail-packed portraits of the lives of those inmates inside the prison.Â
After seeing this project, I deeply feel that those inmates were normal people, with the softest emotions inside their heart as well.Â
