barely   has   𝗱𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵   𝗩𝗔𝗡   𝗗𝗘𝗥   𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘   voiced   those   words    &    retreated   inside   his   tent   that   micah ,    toed   by   cleet    &    joe ,    is   coming   to   stand   between   arthur    &    the   tent .          ❝     hell     ?     reckon     that’s     where     i’m     headin’ ,     sure .     ❞          no   𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃   paid   to   the   snake   eyeing   him   with   𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣   𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩   as   he   holds   his   GROUND ,    swallows   back   the   hack   threatening   to   overwhelm    &    points   to   the   camp .          ❝     first     molly ,     now     susan     ??!     those     people ,     you     pretended     to     care     ‘bout ,     dutch     !     ❞          𝐇𝐎𝐀𝐑𝐒𝐄   voice   carries   beyond   the   barrier   of   men ,    micah   set   on   PUSHING   arthur   away   from   dutch   further    &    further   away .          ❝     hell ,     where     is     it     gonna     end     ?     ❞

❝     i   ain’t   dead,    yet.     ❞          𝙷𝙾𝙰𝚁𝚂𝙴   𝚅𝙾𝙸𝙲𝙴   𝙰𝚂   𝙷𝙴   𝙲𝙾𝚄𝙽𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚂,    conviction   in   his   voice   counterweighting   the   TREMBLING   of   his   words,    &    his   eyes   shine   with   a   resolute   𝚋𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜,    reminding   of   morgan’s   authentic   youth   aged   well   before   its   time   by   morbid   decay.     IT’S   HIS   CONFIRMATION   THAT   HE’LL   FIND   THE   NECESSARY   STRENGTH   TO   FOLLOW   HIS   MENTOR   TO   THE   ENDS   OF   THE   EARTH   IF   NEED   BE,    entirely   too   grateful   for   𝚟𝚊𝚗   𝚍𝚎𝚛   𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚎’s   attention    &    his   sudden   disinterest   in   micah.          ❝     i   can   ride,    dutch!     you   know   i’ll   ride   wit’chu   you   as   long   as   you’ll   want   me   to.     ❞          &    with   the   surge   of   𝙲𝙾𝙽𝙵𝙸𝙳𝙴𝙽𝙲𝙴   arthur   garners   from   dutch’s   consideration,    the   man’s   already   struggling   to   climb   upon   his   saddle,    leaving   no   room   for   the   other   to   keep   adding   to   the   list   of   reasons   why   arthur   shouldn’t   come.     a   mouthful   of   water   from   his   flask   to   silence   the   𝚆𝙷𝙴𝙴𝚉𝙸𝙽𝙶   in   his   breath,    feet   strong   in   the   stirrups   before   he   KICKS   his   horse   into   motion,    gazes   over   his   shoulder   as   his   mount   starts   to   gallop.          ❝     well,    whatchu   waitin   for?     can’t   keep   up,    no   more?     ❞          for   a   moment     ━     however   long   it   will   LAST     ━     it’s   like   things   never   changed   between   them,     like   micah   had   never   spread   his   poison,    like   hosea   was   still   waiting   for   them   to   safely   return   back   into   camp.

𝙱𝚁𝙾𝚆   𝙻𝙸𝙵𝚃𝚂   𝙰𝚃   𝚃𝙷𝙴   𝙰𝙳𝙳𝚁𝙴𝚂𝚂,    arthur   momentarily   shifting   his   focus   from   john   to   dutch,    grip   loosening   on   𝚑𝚒𝚜   𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛’s   shirt.     it   wasn’t   VIOLENT   per   se,    but   hosea’d   been   repeatedly   expressing   his   𝙳𝙸𝚂𝙲𝙾𝙽𝚃𝙴𝙽𝚃   in   the   younger   men’s   play,    golden   hair   shining   under   the   sun.     truth   be   told,    half   the   fun   was   witnessing   𝚖𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚠𝚜’   very   subtle   annoyance   coupled   with   the   frustration   of   not   being   listened   to.     but   dutch’s   voice   is   enough   to   DRAW   ATTENTION,    arthur’s   grin   shrinking   at   the   interruption.     JOHN’S   DRAWN   THE   DISTRACTION   TO   HIS   ADVANTAGE,    EVADING   MORGAN’S   HOLD   WITH   A   ROLL   OF   HIS   EYES.          ❝     well,    ya   took   yer   time,    dutch!     ❞          smile   soon   widens   as   hosea’ll   nod   his   agreement,    pointing   a   thumb   at   arthur    &    john   to   comment   on   how   ‘these   two   were   jus’   about   ta   rip   each   other’s   throats’     ━     an   astute   remark   followed   by   arthur’s   laughter    &    john’s   grunt.          ❝     so,    whatchu   seen,    dutch?     anythin   worth   takin,    in   𝙰𝚁𝙼𝙰𝙳𝙸𝙻𝙻𝙾?     ❞

❛  𝐲’𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐨𝐧𝐞  𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭  𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐨𝐧 ?     a  young  lady  was  singin’  a  song  in  the  fields  one  time  when  i  ----   i  found  myself  down  south  at  a  time.  long  time  ago,   before  all  this.    but  i  guess  ---  𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐨𝐧  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭   𝐨𝐟  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬.   an’  he  was  betrayed  by  a  woman,   his  lover,   i  guess.   kinda  silly  because  from  what  i  gathered,  the  worst  thing  she  ever  did  was  cut  all  his  hair.  ❜ 

               ＂    wanted    what,    dutch ?    all    this    noise ?    ‘cause    i    thought    that    was    a    part    of    y’er    plan .    should’a    known    y’all    was    gettin’    set    up    by    bronte    on    that    trolley    job .    big    rich    feller    like    him,    he    ain’t    got    no    time    for    the    likes    of    us .    even    you    should    know    that .    ＂

               she’s    just    as    frustrated    as    he    is,    though    perhaps    being    a    mere    bit    dramatic    on   the   matter .    she    shouldn’t    be    pestering    him   on   the   matter,   she    knows    that,   she   hasn’t    even    been    running    with    the    gang    that    long    now .    maybe   a    few   months .    from    where    they’ve    gone    since    she’s    been    welcomed    with    open    arms,    which    has    been   a    steady,    violent    incline,    she’s    just    afraid    of    what    their    fate    might    be .    the    thought    of    just    leaving    before    it    all    turns    to    hell    lingers,    but    she    can’t    just    leave    them .    they’re    family    now,    but    now    that    she’s    here,   she    can     sure    as    hell    argue    about    the    decisions    they’ve    been    making .

               she’s    stiff    in    the    archway    of    the    main    room    of    shady   belle,    arms    crossed    tensely    across    her    rather    petite    frame .    her    blonde    brows    fixated    in    a    furrow,    while    crimson    painted    lips    are    strained   in   a    tight    line .    to    dutch    van    der    linde,    she   can’t    be    much    of    intimidating    in    the    moment,    perhaps    just    annoying .    𝒔𝒉𝒆'𝒍𝒍   𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆    𝒊𝒕    𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓    𝒘𝒂𝒚 .

allowing    herself    to    soften    in    the    slightest    after    such    statement,    her    head    drops,    just    a    little,    arms    falling    to    her    sides    in    exasperation .

Frugality was their way of life but even in frugality one could find ways to splurge every now and then. One may even find it necessary to do so: Dutch’s saddlebags, weathered and old, had given out somewhere between the Heartlands and New Austin, and what trinkets and possessions the merry leader of their little band of Robin Hoods had transported in them from east to west had to be transferred into Dutch’s satchel and into the saddlebags of everyone else, and Arthur could only conjecture the inconvenience of it all. 

So he had gone to great pains to do a very special thing for the grand festivities this year; had gone and gotten himself caught up in jobs as menial as to muck out stables for some cattle baron between New Austin and West Elizabeth, or as dangerous as to rustle steer near Armadillo. He had worked himself to a full purse the proceeds of which had gone, in part, towards acquiring a new pair of saddle bags from the soft, pliable leather of a cougar he had tracked and gunned for in the Ridge.

Try as he might--- but he never found seem to find himself SPARED of the bad side of the law. No matter what was done. If you can’t beat them, then you JOIN them. If one’s character would allow it, of course. Not a easy feat when guns and ill temper for authority were involved.
