Character Development: Joining the Order

Artem never intended to take a side in this wix war. They knew neither side particularly cared about protecting their kind or making things better for half-veela or any half-breeds for that matter. They didn’t intend to get involved. Sure, they had an occasional moment of helping Connor cover when he was trying to hide people at Ganymede’s, but there was a big different between helping people on occasion who needed it and actively pursuing a fight. Then again, Artem has never been great about backing down from a fight, especially one like this where the incantation in the air clearly stated that if the Death Eaters and their purity campaign gained ground, half-breeds would suffer. 

Then Connor mentioned that the Order had taken in werewolves defecting from groups associated with that side. Artem could appreciate their reasons for fleeing, and the half-veela could appreciate that maybe there were wix willing to take risks for half-breeds. Werewolves and veela were ages and ages apart in their treatment by society, but neither were treated particularly well. Veela were held with a pretend positive standard, but Artem had grown up knowing the expectations, the “Are you sure you didn’t charm him on purpose?” and the “She couldn’t help herself. You know what you are,” excuses from human wix. They had no illusions that such standards would get better if the Order prevailed.

But it couldn’t be ignored that they were willing to take in a group outcast from society because those people needed them. Maybe Artem’s life couldn’t get better with the Order, but unlike the Death Eaters, this group wouldn’t make life actively worse.
