David Berg maliciously spread misinformation about AIDS to further incite fear and hatred of homosexuals. He and his co-founder, Karen Zerby, deliberately propagated the falsehood that AIDS is a gay disease and further proclaimed it to be God’s punishment on gays. Berg even included this falsification in a children's devotional, which the cult printed and circulated worldwide so as to indoctrinate members from childhood.
Zerby further exposed her true nature by comparing AIDS to earthquakes that she claimed God sends as judgment upon evil people, while Berg condemned palliative care for terminal AIDS patients.
To this day, the cult’s website in honor of Berg claims that his writings “are permeated with the same love for God … that has motivated missionaries throughout the ages.” On her official website, Zerby states, “You see and hear it all the time—discrimination against … minorities of all kinds … What a stark contrast that is to the way God is and the way He wants us to be!
